Kindness Looks Good On You

Description

Beth Jones asks that today you pay attention to kindness in all of your relationships.

"So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline."  (Colossians 3:12, The Message)

There are many components to our Christian wardrobe. Let's zero in on one article of clothing that separates Christians from the average Joe: kindness. I've had the pleasure of meeting some pretty kind people...and like you, I've also experienced the wrath of those who were not feeling so kind.

Think about it—in the last week, who's been kind to you? Who's spoken kindly to you? Who have you been kind to?

Kindness has these synonyms: compassion, sympathy, gentleness, benevolence, thoughtfulness and consideration.

When was the last time you came into contact with or dispensed compassion? A sympathetic disposition? Gentleness in your communications? Benevolent deeds? Thoughtfulness? Consideration for another?

The opposite of kindness is cruelty. People can be cruel with their words, tones, non-verbals, silence, attitudes, actions and plots. They are cruel when they have the power to encourage, assist or help—and they don't. It's a dog-eat-dog world out there and it seems very few people are thinking about kindness.

What have you experienced lately? What have you dished out? The best place to wear kindness is with your own family. Here are a few verses to consider…

Men, Husbands and Dads: "That which is desired in a man is loyalty and kindness [and his glory and delight are his giving]…." (Proverbs 19:22, AMP) Notice, it's not the he-man, condescending, short-fused man that is desired, but rather the loyal, kind and generous man.

Women, Wives and Moms: "She opens her mouth in skillful and godly Wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness [giving counsel and instruction]." (Proverbs 31:26, AMP) Notice, the kind of woman that made it into the Proverbs 31 Hall of Fame has her mouth filled with godly wisdom and kindness—not a gossiping, nagging, sharp tongue.

Today, let's pay attention to kindness in all of our relationships.

Say It: “Father, help me to clothe myself in kindness. In Jesus' Name. Amen."
