When faced with challenges, it is easy to lose sight of God’s promises. God has blessings for you. Will you keep the faith and be obedient?
Read: 1 Corinthians 9:19-10:1
I desperately wanted to further my education, but the closest college offering my major was several hours away. For more than a year I tried to determine how I could make it work, but I simply could not afford to quit my job and relocate. One week before the fall semester, I received an attractive job offer from an employer five minutes from the university. I was ecstatic. God had answered my prayers. I could work full time and attend school part time. I could not have asked for a more perfect plan.
But halfway into my journey, my focus shifted from God’s perfect gift to the challenges ahead. As a part-time student, it would take six years to complete the program. It was tempting to quit.
In 1 Corinthians 10, Paul reminds us of the Israelites’ wilderness experience and the result of their faithlessness: “And do not grumble, as some of them did — and were killed by the destroying angel” (1 Corinthians 10:10). Paul warned that there will be challenges and temptations but that God will provide a way to stand up under them (1 Corinthians 10:13).
The lessons learned from Israel’s experience more than 2,000 years ago are still applicable today. When faced with challenges, it is easy to lose sight of God’s promises. God has blessings for you. Will you keep the faith and be obedient?
