Keep It Simple

Description

The best way to interpret the Bible is to take the simplest possible reading whenever you can.

Proverbs 3:1-2 (NIV®)

My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity.

A good rule of thumb is that the best way to interpret the Bible is to take the simplest possible reading whenever you can. There are some places that obviously won’t work, but it should be your first response to God’s Word. I believe this passage means precisely what it says—that if we won’t forget God’s teaching, but if we will keep it in our hearts, that it will prolong our lives many years, and it will bring us prosperity. What an interesting notion! Don’t spend your life chasing the blessings of God. If you’ll meet the conditions, God will see to it that His blessings flow over you.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I am grateful for the many times Your Word speaks so plainly. Thank You for this simple instruction. Help me to understand and remember Your teachings, Lord, so that my days in the earth will be blessed. And I will give you the praise. In Jesus’ name, amen.
