Just This Once
God’s plan for each of us is to achieve greatness in life. He wants the best for all of us. The evil one, on the other hand, wants us to settle for second best. He does not want to see us achieve our ultimate goal, and he has a great power to help bring us down. Lust, that God-given desire for intimacy that has gone haywire, leads many of us down the road of destruction. Lust has only one purpose, and that is to bring us down – to cause us to fall short of the goal God has set for us.
Lust always looks for leverage in your life and mine. Lust looks for weaknesses and uses those weaknesses to bring your life, along with God’s desire for your life, crashing to the ground. Lust lies to you and tells you that it won’t hurt to look at that Web site, watch that illicit sexual scene, or think about that person at work. Satan whispers, “Just this once. It’s okay.” The problem is that “just this once” will turn into another “just this once,” and then another and another, and so on. And in the end, lust will always lead you down the road of destruction.
Maybe this week you feel dominated and shackled by the shame and guilt that lust has brought into your life. Maybe you feel like there is no place to turn. But there is. You can walk in purity; no matter how many times lust has leveled you. God’s love and his grace are available to you today. But you need to put your trust in God, that he can bring you into the light. You need to say, “God, just this once, I put my trust in you.” Turn away from the lies of lust. Open your heart to God, and discover what he has in store for your life … just this once.
