Junk Drawers

You are precious. You are wanted. You are His workmanship. And He wants you to be used for His honor and glory.

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:10 ESV)

There is a drawer in our house where anything we aren’t quite ready to throw out but also are not sure when or if we will ever need, gets thrown. We call it our junk drawer.

This is an interesting name for the drawer as it contains hundreds of dollars’ worth of doo-dads and what-nots. Tiny eye-glass screwdrivers, miscellaneous batteries (are they dead or do they have any life left …. nobody knows for sure), pieces of ‘things’ that have broken off ‘something’ and need to be glued back, magnets . . . the list is long and almost scandalous! I’ve sat and tried to go through the small lower drawer, but end up daydreaming and reminiscing without actually accomplishing any clean up.

You know what is encouraging though, ladies? God doesn’t have a junk drawer.

Everything – everyone – He bought with the blood of His only Son; precious, priceless blood currency, purchasing people that were designed, and prepared for His purpose and works.

Be blessed by that thought. No matter what anyone has said to you or about you, this is truth: He doesn’t make, keep or design junk! You are precious! You are wanted! You are His workmanship! And He wants you to be used for His honor and glory!

Father, we thank You that You gave us the truth of Your Word. Help us to tear down the lies from the enemy that would make us believe that we are useless, ugly or too broken to be of any use. May we walk in the freedom of Your light, knowing our value and identity is found in You! In Jesus’ name, Amen!
