Joy of Learning

Backpack in hand, a Syrian child returns from a World Vision early education center to her family’s tent in a refugee settlement in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley.

A new report by the U.N. refugee agency says more than 6 million child refugees have no school to attend. For primary grades, 50 percent of children have education opportunities, compared to a global average of 90 percent. The education gap widens significantly as refugee children age.

The report says more than half of out-of-school refugees are in seven countries: Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lebanon, Pakistan, and Turkey.
