Joy is a Fight
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything” James 1:2-4.
Yesterday we learned that joy is a process. But not only is it a process, but also joy is a fight! Experiencing joy in life is not easy. It won’t always show up, put its arm around your shoulder, and walk every step of life with you.
Are you facing challenges in an area of your life right now? Are you going through a testing time at home, at school or in your work situation? Are you wondering where the moments of happiness that you pursued are? The one outcome of those times can change us; and as we read today, change us for the good.
Perseverance is something that can only be achieved by testing. It is not something that can be taught in a class or learned on Wikipedia. It is an essential part of the process of becoming mature in your faith. Don’t miss out on what God wants to teach you. Instead, consider it pure joy!
Pray that God will reassure you of His presence, even as you face whatever situation is causing you concern today. Ask Him to strengthen your perseverance and your faith in Him in every situation.
Write down today’s lesson: joy is a fight. As you grow through your trials, share your confidence with others today. Show those around you that you trust the Lord to help you through.
