Jesus Will Not Be Used!

Some people look for Jesus because of what He can do for them. Why do you look to Jesus? He deserves our love and reverence simply because He is God!

When they found Him on the other side of the lake, they asked Him, "Rabbi, when did you get here?" Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, you are looking for Me, not because you saw miraculous signs but because you ate the loaves and had your fill." (John 6:25-26 NIV)

Jesus knew how to read a person’s heart. It had been a great miracle. There were over 5,000 people who showed up to hear Jesus teach. It was near dinner time and the people were getting hungry. The disciples said it would take eight months wages to feed that many people. Jesus had the people sit down and He gave thanks for the food. He divided the food among the people, and when everyone was full, the disciples picked up twelve baskets full left over. Wow! That was a great miracle!

Now, the people have missed Jesus for a few hours, so they come looking for Him. Jesus instantly recognizes their desires. They aren’t looking for Him because they have now decided to make Him Lord of their life. They are looking for Him because they are hungry again!

May I ask you something? Why do you look for Jesus? Is He only as good as His next miracle? Do you just want Him so that you can have your fill? Dear friend, Jesus will not be used! He is the great King, the One and Only, the Messiah. He is Almighty God, Author and Perfecter of our faith! He is not a magic lamp we can rub to get three wishes. He deserves our love and reverence simply because He is God!

The people were looking for Jesus because of what He could do for them. Why are you and I?
