Jesus Saved You and Gave You a New Identity
Description
Hear
Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners--of whom I am the worst (1 Timothy 1:15).
Believe
While Jesus was on earth, he gravitated toward sinners. He hung out with them and ate in their homes.
Now this confounded the religious leaders. They couldn’t figure out why he spent time with the dregs of society, those that they had shunned and labeled as sinners and outcasts.
But these leaders didn’t understand his mission. Jesus came into the world to save sinners. As Paul learned and later wrote, “Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners--of whom I am the worst” (1 Timothy 1:15).
Just like Paul, you and I were sinners too. Jesus’ mission was the same for us, to save us from our sins and to give us a brand new identity. And that’s why Jesus found his way into our lives.
Maybe you had a hard time admitting that you were a sinner or that you were lost and dead in sin. It is not a truth we like to admit. But it is the truth. And when you did admit it, you discovered that Jesus came to save you, that you were included in his mission.
Instead of turning his back on you, Jesus demonstrated his great love for you, in that
“while you were still a sinner,” he died for you. And in your lowly and helpless condition, Jesus met you and saved you from your sins and gave you a brand new identity.
Now, instead of being an old sinner, you are a child of the King. John wrote it best… “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12).
Picture this… the day Jesus saved you, He looked at His father and said, “Mission Accomplished.”
Live
Aren’t you glad Jesus came into the world to save sinners? Aren’t you glad he saved you and gave you a brand new identity — a child of God? Today, thank God that the grace of Jesus Christ overflowed to you and changed you from a sinner to a saint.
