Jesus' Formula

Find out Jesus' formula and use it to determine what is truly valuable to you.

What we do with our time and money says a lot about the priorities of our lives. Jesus made this clear in Matthew 6:21 when He said, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” From the original Greek language, the word “treasure” in this verse can also be translated “deposit." Jesus is telling us we will make the biggest deposit into those things that are the most valuable to us; we will make the highest investment into those things that are closest to our hearts.

If you really want to know what you consider valuable, simply look at what you spend your time and money doing. For example, a husband can say he greatly loves his wife but if he invests little time and finances into his marriage and into his wife, his marriage really isn’t the priority he says it is. Someone can say they love God and they want to help others know Him but if they invest little or no time and money into God’s work, they prove by their actions where their heart really is.

I encourage you to take an open and honest look at your life, and use Jesus’ formula in Matthew 6:21 to determine what’s truly valuable to you. Consider those things you’ve invested the most time and finances into over the past few months, and see if they’re really the things you want to continue putting your heart into. If you desire to make a change in heart simply make a change in what you’re investing into, because your heart will follow your treasure. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also!
