It’s Unfair to Compare

Description

When we compare our lives with others around us, we take the focus off of God and what He has provided.

We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise (2 Corinthians 10:12).

THINK

Social media usage has increased 356 percent since 2006. It’s clear that social media is here to stay, at least for a while. But what we often don’t ask ourselves is, what are we really using it for? So much of what is shared is all about comparing. We want others to see where we are, what we’re doing, who we’re with.

When we compare our lives with others around us, we take the focus off of God and what He has provided. We become enamored with the wrong things. We can easily become jealous and discontent with what we have.

As you take a break from social media this week, use this time to look to God. Don’t worry about comparing your life with others around you. Instead, be content with where God has you and with what God has provided for you.

PRAY

Thank God for what He has provided for you today. Pray for contentment in any situation you find yourself in.

ACT

One of the best ways to experience peace is to be content with what you have. Write down the five most important things you are thankful for in your life. Keep this list handy so that if you start to focus on what others have, you can remind yourself of what God has already given to you.
