Is Any One of You Sick?
Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. James 5:14
When you are sick, the logical thing to do is to call your doctor. You schedule an appointment, get checked out, and get the medicine that you need to get well. And for the most part, we take it for granted by giving credit to the doctors, the technology, or the medicine. We don’t usually recognize that the healing came from God. We think he has closed up shop in the healing business.
But when the roof of your life starts to cave in relationally, emotionally, or spiritually where do you turn? The Bible tells us that we need to turn to our local church. When we find our life in the deep weeds, the church is the one place we can turn to find the healing from God that we need.
But we cannot call on the church in times of need if we aren’t a part, if we aren’t involved in the church. God didn’t intend for us to do life solo – he meant for us to be involved with other believers on an intimate and meaningful level.
Turn to God’s healing power through the local church. Commit to being part of the shop that is still open for business. Because, after all, the Great Physician hasn’t closed his shop.
