Invitation to Truth

Conviction is a great gift of the Holy Spirit, and it will bring good things to you. Repent. Cooperate.

Proverbs 19:20 (NIV®)

Listen to advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise.

Conviction is when the Spirit of God shines His light into some aspect of your life and invites you to yield to Him more fully. It happens to all of us. And if the message makes us uncomfortable, we’ll try to discredit the source. If a person is involved, he or she is a busybody. If it’s a Scripture passage, it doesn’t really apply to me. If it’s a book I’m reading, it’s a dumb book. If it’s a sermon, it was a bad one. But if conviction is in play in your life, it is God inviting you toward truth that will bring you freedom. Don’t defend your shortcoming or excuse it or say it’s the way your family is or the result of your parenting or the choice somebody else made. Repent. Cooperate. Look for opportunities to grow as a Jesus-follower. Conviction is a great gift of the Holy Spirit, and it will bring good things to you.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the wisdom You give me through the Scriptures and other believers who speak into my life. Holy Spirit, thank You for the light of conviction You shine on me, even when it makes me uncomfortable. I yield my thoughts, my words, and my actions to You, for I want to bring honor to You in all that I do. In Jesus’ name, amen.
