In Step

By walking in step with the Holy Spirit, our lifes can bear much fruit.

Read: Galatians 5:16-26

“So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16).

For me, walking in step with the Holy Spirit is like strolling hand in hand with the love of my life. Whether walking down a busy street or on an empty beach, when we share a gaze into each other’s eyes, we can tune out everything except each other no matter the distractions around us. There is no other place I would rather be than right there with her.

Can you think of someone who makes you feel that way? You don’t have a care in the world when you are with that person. No crowd is too big; no road is too long. What matters is the person sharing these moments with you.

It is easy to get lost in the distractions around us and give in to the “desires of the flesh.” Yet when we walk in step with the Holy Spirit, His fruit is all we want and need. When we share moments with Jesus, He helps us tune out all the distractions, and there is nowhere else we’d rather be than right there, soaking up the fruit of the Spirit we so desperately need: love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22).

  • What distracts you from staying in step with the Holy Spirit?
  • To what desires of the flesh do you find yourself giving in?
  • How can the fruit of the Spirit help you conquer them?
