In Spite Of

Description

God commends David to us as a godly man―not because of his absolute consistency, but because of the passion with which he served the Lord.

1 Kings 15:5 (NIV®)

David had done what was right in the eyes of the LORD and had not failed to keep any of the LORD’s commands all the days of his life—except in the case of Uriah the Hittite.

David was a man of extremes: extreme passion, extreme cunning, extreme political astuteness, and extreme blunders. David’s deceitful actions toward Uriah the Hittite in 2 Samuel 11 displeased the Lord, and he was punished severely for them. One of the remarkable aspects of Scripture, however, is that God commends David to us as a godly man―not because of his absolute consistency, but because of the passion with which he served the Lord. In spite of his imperfections, the Bible says David was a man after God’s own heart. We too can serve God, in spite of our imperfections. Satan will tell you that you are not worthy of serving and worshiping the Lord, but do not let him convince you of that. Like David, you can be a person who loves the Lord with your whole heart.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, in spite of my many weaknesses and imperfections, I want to be a man after Your own heart, a man who worships and serves You all of my days. I ask for Your wisdom, Lord, so that I will know how to do what is right in Your eyes. In Jesus’ name, amen.
