In Memory

Parvati Sapkota, right, and a friend attend the the Light For Nepal Candlelight Vigil, organized by World Vision in Kathmandu one month after the April 25 earthquake.

The event honored the memory of lives lost in the earthquake as well as survivors.

"When we light a candle here, we pray for all those affected by the earthquake, so that people can find peace in the midst of the disaster. We pray for peace and healing for our people and for our nation," says Parvati.

Parvati too has been affected by the earthquake that rocked the nation of Nepal claiming more than 8,600 lives and leaving thousands homeless.

“I have come to the city to study. My house back in my village has been damaged. Here I live in a hostel which has been affected too. The walls are cracked and there is no electricity. Life has become very difficult,” she says.

“Even in university the atmosphere is grim, people have not yet recovered from the trauma of the earthquake.”
