I Need a Makeover

Have you ever looked at yourself, glanced at your surroundings, looked back at yourself, and then suddenly realized you just didn't measure up?

My five year old walked into Neiman Marcus, looked around at the perfect manikins in shiny pants and sparkly jackets and announced,

“I need a makeover!”

This announcement initially took me by surprise, being as though she has never announced this during one of our routine trips to Wal-Mart!

Then I thought to myself,

“So do I.”

Have you ever looked at yourself, glanced at your surroundings, then back at yourself and suddenly realized you just don’t measure up?

And I’m not referring to my wardrobe!

There are times when I know that the very innermost parts of my being are in desperate need of a transformation, a character alteration and an emotional overhaul.

You know those days when you can’t stop fussing at the kids, crying at the laundry and slamming the dishes?

The moments when you look around your life and wonder what you are doing and how you got there?

And the seasons you desperately try to skip, avoid or even sleep through?

Moments of doubt, days of anxiety, and seasons of inadequacy–all let me know that I am in need of cleaning up, a fresh encounter and an overall spiritual renewal.

I’ll be the first to admit that I could use a new look…how about you?

For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians1:6 (NASB)

I pray that I allow myself to be vulnerable enough to open up and let Him see what I really have inside.

I am prepared to throw out the ugly, the worn and the overused.

And I commit to seeking out and allowing Him to replenish, replace and restock my old, with His new.

I am grateful for a God who does makeovers.
