I'm Walking on Air

Voice your appreciation of your spouse in front of others. Praise for your spouse can be contagious and makes your partner feel like they're "walking on air."

An excellent wife is the crown of her husband. Proverbs 12:4

Have you ever overheard your spouse bragging to someone about you? That happened to me (Teresa) the other day.

David was on the phone with a friend. I had just finished cleaning up the kitchen, and I walked into the bedroom where he was. His back was to me. I heard him say my name, so naturally my ears pricked up. He was telling his friend what a great attitude I'd had over the delay in remodeling our house. We were remodeling our house, and for various reasons it had gone over completion time by several months. He went on to say how appreciative he was that I hadn't spent my time complaining, but had sought instead to make the best out of current living arrangements. He talked about what a help that had been to his peace of mind.

That compliment meant so much to me because I knew it was from his heart. David was lifting me up to his friend as a wife of great value. And believe me, because of hearing what I did, I'm especially careful to continue being a good sport about the house. I'd hate for David to have to change his mind.

Public praise is one of the most powerful ways you can build up your spouse. We've never had a husband or wife come to us complaining about being embarrassed by his or her spouse's praise.

A great place to begin in this area is to voice your appreciation of your spouse in front of your children and family members, then expand it to friends, church members, and those in the workplace.

Praise for your spouse can be contagious! For what can you publicly praise your spouse today? To whom will you voice those praises?

Lord, help me to lift up my spouse as valuable and to share my thankfulness for my spouse with others.
