I’m Afraid of Being Found Out

Description

If it is you who holds power over someone else, remember what God thinks of those who betray confidences. Show to others the same mercy God has shown you.

Everybody has secrets, things we are glad other people don’t know. But some people are sitting on past secrets that would drop a bomb on their lives if the information ever got out. What’s in your closet? Maybe it’s a felony for which you were never caught. Maybe you are an illegal alien. Maybe you cheated on your spouse.

Maybe you got your job under false pretenses. Maybe your kids have been in major trouble with the police, but your family doesn’t know it. Yet. Maybe the college degree(s) you claim are phony. Maybe your life looks normal on the outside, but you are so deeply in debt that you could lose your home.

How many people know your darkest secret? Do you live in fear that someone could rat you out? This is a timeless problem. “A gossip betrays a confidence” (Proverbs 11:13).

Where can you go with these fears? Lord, have mercy! Lord, help me! Pray that the Lord of compassion and mercy will keep the lid on that destructive information. If it was your carelessness or evil deed that put you at risk, learn from your error, fix what you can, and give the rest to God. But if it is you who holds power over someone else, remember what God thinks of those who betray confidences. Show to others the same mercy God has shown you.
