Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be condemned… (Titus 2:7-8).
I remember in 1956 when my family was living in Conway, Arkansas. My parents took us over to Little Rock one evening for a Billy Graham crusade. I really didn’t know what it was all about. I just knew it was a big stadium and there was an enthusiastic man preaching!
When the preaching was finished, we were singing “Just as I Am” and I noticed my parents were whispering to one another. So my mom turned to me and said, “Jackie, you stay right here. Your dad and I are going to make a decision.” So they walked forward and made a public profession of Jesus Christ as Lord of their lives.
I didn’t fully understand it, but I’ve never forgotten it. To see my parents’ dedication of their own lives to the Lord’s service is something that’s etched in my brain. And when I encounter struggles of my own, I remember their faithfulness and am encouraged by their willingness to surrender themselves to Jesus. It’s made all the difference for me.
Parents, don’t ever underestimate the impact you have on your kids. How you respond to Christ and live for Him is going to stay with them forever. Be an example of a faithful follower to your kids. They won’t forget it!
Exemplify faithful service to Christ for your kids, and they'll be forever changed because of it.
