Hopes Flagging

A South Sudan flag held high, a man stands amid the crowd gathered to celebrate South Sudan independence on July 9, 2011.

After over three decades of war, the independence of South Sudan on July 9, 2011, brought huge hopes to the people of South Sudan. In the four years since, that hope has all but disappeared as groups inside and outside the country compete for territory and resources.

World Vision has worked in South Sudan since 1989 and in that time has served millions of South Sudanese through development and emergency relief programs.
