Our Savior rewards His children who pursue holiness; He gives grace to practice His ways faithfully.
BUT JUST AS HE WHO CALLED YOU IS HOLY, SO BE HOLY IN ALL YOU DO; FOR IT IS WRITTEN: "BE HOLY, BECAUSE I AM HOLY. — 1 PETER 1:15-16
Holiness is one of the most difficult concepts to grasp about God because it is so foreign to us. He is unable to sin, set apart in glorious light. However, we can easily understand why Isaiah fell on his face when he beheld the Lord, feeling his sinfulness weighing heavy upon Him (Isaiah 6:5).
Just as the angel cleansed Isaiah's lips, Christ made us His righteousness, holy people (1 Peter 2:9). Because Christ has given us His holiness, we don't have to earn it ourselves. For Christians, pursuing holiness isn't fulfilling a set of rules in order to be accepted before God. Instead, it is a heart-deep desire to model our lives after our Savior's perfect example.
Though we are holy in Christ, we still struggle with sin in this life. Where is the Holy Spirit convicting you to practice holiness? Do you have trouble being kind in your words, spoken or unspoken? Are your thoughts filled with peace and thankfulness, or do you struggle with envy? Does the way you treat others honor Christ, especially folks who disagree with you or are different from you?
Don't be discouraged by how you fall short. Our Savior rewards His children who pursue holiness; He will give you the grace to learn to practice His ways faithfully.
Father God, thank You that Christ's holiness covers me. Show me the sins I've ignored so that I can be holy in my actions as You are holy. Amen.
