Holy Spirit Power

If Jesus waited for the Holy Spirit before He began to minister, we must do the same.

Luke 4:14 (NIV®)

Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside.

Jesus was thirty years old and had been living in relative obscurity as Joseph and Mary’s son. Then He went to John, who baptized Him in the Jordan River. The Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus in the form of a dove, and God said, “This is My Son—I’m pleased with Him.” That’s when Jesus “went public” and the miraculous part of His life began. Healing people, casting out spirits, walking on water, calling dead people to life—all of those things followed the descent of the Spirit in Jesus’ life. If Jesus needed the help of the Holy Spirit to let the power of God be unleashed in order to accomplish God’s purposes for His life, you and I most certainly do as well.

Father, thank You for Your gift of the Holy Spirit to all of us who belong to You. I come before You asking for a greater humility and awareness of my need for the Spirit and a greater willingness to rely on the Spirit’s power to accomplish Your purposes through me. Use me to make a difference for Your Kingdom, Lord. In the name of Jesus I pray, amen.
