Seasons of suffering hit us all at some point. Let’s be the friend we hope to have when it’s our turn.
“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” (Hebrews 10:13-25)
As I pulled out of the garage, I failed to see the ladybug resting on the center of my windshield. Turning onto the road, it wasn’t until I hit the speed limit that I noticed her clinging on for dear life. Crazy as it may sound, I prayed for that little creature! With each turn of the road, the winds whipped her little shell even as I tried to slow down a bit to keep her from being torn from her perch. She clung on for dear life and managed to make it until the red light where she successfully took flight.
Her tenacity reminded me of my friend who is struggling with her mother’s illness and all the pain that comes from becoming our parents’ caregiver. It’s so hard. Her reports are heartbreaking. She is holding on to her Lord, clinging to the Vine daily as her only strength.
When trials come our way, the Word tells us to hold fast to the confession of our hope. God is faithful. All His promises are true. But often, when we are stuck and the winds of trials are hitting us, we need friends to come alongside us and offer words of encouragement and love as well.
Do you have someone in your life that is clinging on for dear life? I encourage you to reach out to them. Send them an uplifting text, meet them for coffee to lend a listening ear, and pray for them.
