John 14:27 (NIV®)
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
There are very few times when Jesus specifically gave His followers something that was His. In this case He said, “You can have My peace.” Jesus didn’t say His peace would bring freedom from conflict. In fact, Jesus faced conflict from His infancy, when Joseph and Mary fled with him to Egypt to protect Him from the murderous Herod. When He grew to maturity and began His public ministry, He faced hostility many times, mostly from religious leaders. In every circumstance Jesus faced, you never find Him frightened or intimidated or panicked. No matter what He encountered, whether it was a need, an angry politician, or someone with a trick question, Jesus had the calm assurance of God’s abiding presence, and that’s the gift He gives to us. “My peace I give to you.” What an amazing promise for our lives.
Heavenly Father, I put my trust in You and Your loving care over my life. Thank You for Your protection, provision, and plans for me. I choose to live in the peace You give, the assurance of Your abiding presence in my life. When I am afraid, I will trust in You and wait for Your deliverance. In Jesus’ name, amen.
