"Here is Your God!"

There is no problem too big for God, and certainly none too hard for Him to solve.

"Here is your God!" See, the Sovereign Lord comes with power, and his arm rules for him. (Isaiah 40:9–10)

"Just how big is God?" This child’s question has no doubt stumped many a parent! But actually, it is a question that many of us ask, consciously or unconsciously, when problems or hard times come our way. "Is God big enough to deal with this? Does he have the resources to meet my needs?" Of course, we may not always speak the words; but when we do not trust, we are certainly thinking the thoughts.

This is exactly how God’s people were thinking in Isaiah’s day; but Isaiah knew that if they could only see how big God is, then they would not have to ask the question! Isaiah 40 is a prophecy of God, in all his greatness, coming in power to deal with his people’s situation and sin. But can he do it? Of course he can, Isaiah replies! Just look at his majestic acts in creation, he says; but those oceans and mountains are as nothing to Him (verse 12)! Now look at the great nations of the world, which seem so powerful; but they are merely a drop in a bucket to God! (verses 15–17) Or think of the world’s great leaders: leaders of nations and superpowers they might be, but they are nothing in comparison to Him! (verses 22-24) And think about the stars – billions of them, millions of light years away, yet all are made by Him and are known to Him by name (verse 26). "And then you ask me if God is big enough to deal with you and your situation?" asks Isaiah? Of course He can! For He is truly God, and a God Who comes in power to His people.

And this is the God Who has promised to be with you today and to come to your aid in every situation. Whatever you may be facing, whatever opportunities lie ahead, the Sovereign God is with you, ruling in power.

The Lord your God, who is among you, is a great and awesome God. (Deuteronomy 7:21)
