Helping Hand

Just as our children have a hand to hold in their times of need, so do we!

For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. (Isaiah 41:13, NIV)

When raising young children, moms hold little hands several times a day. We hold our child's hand for many different reasons. In a parking lot, we hold their hand to keep them safe. As toddlers learn to walk, we hold their hand in order to protect them as they navigate difficult terrain. We are there to hold our child's hand at the doctor's office in order to comfort them. We hold hands as we skip and laugh and play and just enjoy one another's company. We hold a lot of little hands for a lot of different reasons, but motivating them all is our great love for our children. All the while, God is loving us and holding our hand. The Bible says that He takes hold of our right hand and says to us, "Do not fear; I will help you." This verse is so comforting to me! I am keenly aware that I cannot be the mom God has called me to be without His help.

When moments of self-doubt and fear arise, I can rest in the truth that God is holding me by my right hand. I know that He will help me. Just as our children have a hand to hold in their times of need, so do we!

Lord, we confess we need your help in order to raise our children well. Thank you that you take hold of our right hand and say, "Do not fear; I will help you."
