Hebrews 2

A tour of Hebrews 2 with Ken Boa.

Hebrews contrasts the temporary Aaronic priesthood with Christ as our eternal High Priest in the order of Melchizedek. He is equally divine (1:1-3, 8) and human (2:9, 14, 17-18), and He fulfills the three orders of prophet, priest, and king. His perfect and voluntary sacrifice is the fulfillment of all that was anticipated but not realized in the involuntary animal sacrifices of the Old Testament, and unlike those sacrifices, never needs to be repeated. Through His incarnation, Jesus understands the human condition: He became the author of our salvation and our merciful and faithful high priest. “For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted.”

Lord, I give You thanks that Your Son partook of flesh and blood, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.
