Heart-Changing Kindness

A heart change comes from the love of God rather than the Law of God.

Psalm 103:11 is an under-translated verse. In other words, there is more in the verse than the translators brought forth. I will give you my literal translation of the Hebrew. “For as high as the Heavens are above the earth, so His loving kindness has thoroughly conquered those who respect Him.” Loving kindness or loyal affection is mentioned as one of the leading characteristics of our Father in verse eight of the Psalm. Verse 11 tells us that we have been conquered by kindness. This kindness is so immense that it stretches from the Earth to the Heavens. Therefore, nothing can stand in the way of the kindness of God.

We have seen the power of tsunamis on TV. Tsunamis are nothing compared to the incredible force of the loving affection of God. Nothing can withstand it. Our responsibility is to surrender to it. Romans 2:4 says the same thing in a different way: “Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?” In the Old and New Testament, God’s purpose is to conquer us by kindness. Our hearts and minds are to be changed by the kindness of God and not the severity of God. Heart change comes from the love of God, not the Law of God.
