Health Promoter

David Mundu, 13, a World vision sponsored child in Kenya, leads the student water, sanitation and hygiene committee at his school.

David’s committee promotes hand-washing and the benefits of good hygiene to classmates and their community.

Life at Makumba Primary School has changed since World Vision helped them access clean water at the school. The school boasts a water tank, water taps throughout the campus, improved bathrooms, hand-washing stations, and a club made up of students who promote good hygiene and sanitation among their peers.

Having clean water here means students no longer have stomach problems due to bad water. Since August 2013, when the pipeline was completed, enrollment has increased from 372 to 523 students and the children don't have to skip class to get water at the nearby swamp.

Now, Makumba Primary sees the highest academic performance of all 38 schools in the area.
