He Dwells on High
The LORD is exalted, for He dwells on high; He will fill Zion with justice and righteousness. (Isaiah 33:5 NIV)
Why is God to be exalted above all gods? Because He dwells on high! He is the First and the Last; the Beginning and the End. He is above all gods.
Scripture may seem confusing at times, because in one verse we read "You shall have no other gods before me.", indicating there must be other gods, and then in another verse saying, "Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the LORD is God in Heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other", indicating that there is only one God. As you tie Scripture together, however, it is not conflicting, but illuminating. There is only one God, but there can be many gods.
According to the Biblical use of the terms, a "god" (little g) is anything you give honor to, place your full attention upon, put your trust in, or that which has your complete devotion. Your "god" may at times be your hobby, or it could be your family, or it could be that emblem you have hanging around your neck. If you have given anything pre-eminence in your life, then you have made it one of your "gods."
But, according to the Bible, there is only one God (big G). There is only One who has created the heavens and the earth. Only one God knows the hearts of man. Only one God sets the stars in place and tells the eagle to build its nest on high. Only one God cared enough for mankind that He sent His only Son, (also God), to live among them and die on a cross for their sins.
God is more valuable, more precious, more worthy of your all, because there is only one God! He is higher than any "god". Do you trust in the One and Only true God?
