He Chose Us to Impact Others

Description

Jesus didn’t just choose us to be His; He also chose us to impact others

Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.” Ephesians 1:4 (nlt)

My mom married my stepdad when I was four, but I always felt like part of the package deal rather than a bonus feature. Our relationship was fine. My stepdad was good enough to me—he provided a home and made sure I always had everything I needed, yet deep down my heart longed to be chosen.

After I accepted Jesus into my life, I felt the same way. I knew Jesus loved me, but He loved everyone, right? Did God really love me and choose me for me? Even before he made the world…that phrase makes my heart sing. Even before he made the world…I was chosen in Christ. The sacrifice Jesus made was to make me holy and without fault. Yes, I had to accept God, but He was waiting for me, loving me as I journeyed to Him. Even though I am just one person in a sea of faces, God looks to me and says, “I want that one.”

John 15:16 (nlt) speaks of this too: “You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.”

Jesus didn’t just choose us to be His; He also chose us to impact others. It would have been enough to be accepted and forgiven, but Jesus also chose me to join Him in all the amazing things He wants to do on earth.

Today, I have a good relationship with my stepdad—better than I had growing up. Part of that is because I’m more thankful for what my stepdad gave me rather than hurt over what I didn’t have. But another part is that because Jesus chose me, I’m able to impact others—my stepdad included—for Him.

FAITH STEP: Read Ephesians 1:4 out loud, personalizing the text. “Even before he made the world, God loved ME and chose ME in Christ to be holy and with- out fault in his eyes.” Write those words on a note card and pull it out during times you need to feel Jesus’ love in a special way.
