Guide and Provide

The Holy Spirit will guide us into truth, and He will provide revelation—all in God’s good timing.

John 16:12-13 (NIV®)

“I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.”

Jesus has just told the disciples that His time on earth is coming to an end. He pours His love and instruction into them and then says, “I have so much I would like to tell you, but right now you just can’t hear it all.” Haven’t we all been there? Maybe the preacher has overloaded you with information or said things you weren’t ready to hear. But Jesus said the Holy Spirit will do two specific things for us: He will guide us into truth, and He will provide revelation—all in God’s good timing. The secrets of the Kingdom of God will be made known to men and women on the earth through our cooperation and participation with the Spirit of God. When I am frustrated or discouraged by my lack of understanding of His plan and purposes, this brings me great comfort.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit, You are welcome in my life. Guide me into all truth, provide revelation, and teach me in Your perfect timing. I thank You that You oversee my life in a way that is so much better than what I could do myself. Help me to always see Your hand and acknowledge Your watch care over me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
