1 Thessalonians 5:14 (NIV®)
Encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone.
In order to participate in the kingdom of God, you have to be born into it. There is no other way. And after that spiritual birth comes spiritual infancy. This is true for all of us, no matter the age we become a Jesus-follower. We have all the equipment necessary to participate, but it’s not fully formed, and we have to learn to trust God. It’s something we grow into, and we all mature at different rates. Don’t be critical of those who are struggling with their faith. They may not believe in the same way you believe, or as fully as you believe. Encourage them, just as you encourage a child who is learning something new. And in a similar way, if you meet someone whose trust has developed beyond yours, who trusts God in ways that you don’t yet, don’t be angry with them or mock them. Learn what you can from them and aspire to grow in your own faith.
Heavenly Father, I praise You that You accept us into Your family as children. Thank You for Your patience as we mature in our faith and grow to trust You in greater ways. Give me that same patience as I shepherd others to love and trust You more fully. Guide me into a greater understanding of Your nature and Your plans and purposes for my life, so that I might bring honor to Your name. In the name of Jesus I pray, amen.
