Growing Vegetables Lead to Growing Healthy Babies
Description
Susan Arupe, member of a mothers’ support group in Kenya’s Turkana region, harvests vegetables from the group's vegetable garden.
"The kitchen garden is a good source of food with vitamins for our children," Susan says. “Before we had the garden we didn’t have vegetables in our diet.”
Turkana mothers are keen on safe and healthy motherhood, something they didn’t take an interest in before.
Today, 30 World Vision-trained traditional birth attendants serve Turkana, helping women at delivery and providing prenatal care and training mothers on breastfeeding and proper nutrition for babies and young children.
