A year after Cyclone Pam, a category 5 storm, hit Vanuatu’s capital, Port Vila, on March 13, 2015, residents look back on what was lost and how they’ve recovered.
About 166,000 people on 22 islands were affected, more than 60 percent of the total population of the small Pacific island nation.
The national government and humanitarian organizations, including World Vision, responded quickly with aid. Work is ongoing to restore shelter, water systems, agriculture, schools, and health care.
