Grace

Description

Moms! In order to teach your children how to love others and how to give grace, you need to be living these qualities out in your own lives. In this devotional, Karen Stubbs gives examples on how to do just that.

Proverbs 22:11

One who loves a pure heart and who speaks with grace will have the king for a friend.

Love and grace seem to be two attributes that are quickly leaving our culture.  People love their own family or extend love when tragic situations occur, but on a daily regular basis, love is not usually given to complete strangers. Because we live in such a fast paced culture, it is easy to blow your top when things don’t go your way quickly. Love and grace are what set you apart from the masses. Because love is rarely given when you do see an act of kindness it makes a big impression. Teach your children how to love others and how to give grace.

In order to teach these qualities you, as the mom, need to be living them out in your own life. When the waiter messes up your order at a restaurant, do you give him grace or do you complain and talk to the manager? When your child comes to you with a problem and confesses their wrong doings, do you listen in love or do you immediately start correcting and scold your child? When your child’s teacher makes a mistake, do you give her the benefit of the doubt or do you jump to your own conclusions? Grace and love are hard to practice in our life and if we aren’t thinking about them, then our old habits will take over. As you go about your day today, think to yourself how you can show love and give grace to someone outside your family. Who knows, it may catch on and before you know it, we will all be a more loving culture.

Prayer

Father,

In my quest to get everything done throughout my day, I tend to allow my fuse to be short with people. I tell myself that these people are messing up my day, my schedule, making me late for things, when in reality I am not extending love and grace. I want to be a loving person, a person that gives grace always. I realize that I can only do that through You. Help me love people every day.
