Godly Men, Part 3
Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. James 1:12 NIV
The Godly man has seen his share of hard times; but he has weathered through each storm!
I’m often asked, why do the most Godly people seem to suffer the most. I wish I had all the answers, but I do have some. The Bible says that “these trials” are “of greater worth than gold”; that they are achieving for us eternal rewards that “far outweigh” the “light and momentary trouble”. God promises that when we stand the test of time we will be rewarded greatly. That reward may not come upon this earth, but it will come! Nothing can stop God from wiping the tears from His children’s eyes!
I wish I could always keep trials in their proper perspective. I wish I could be like Paul and “learn the secret of being content”. I’m not there yet. When trials come I want my Mommy! I want someone to come and fix it! I want out of the trial now! I don’t want to wait for the answer. Remembering that God is “working all things for good” is fine, but what about today? That’s my question!
Thankfully, God understands my question, and, praise God, He is patient with me, helping me through the Holy Spirit to bear up under the trials. Through the trials of life I have learned to have more faith. Through trials I have seen heartache and tears turn to rejoicing and victory. Through trials I have learned even more about the God who created the Heavens and the earth. Trials have not been fun, but they have brought me closer to the God who cares. I know that now.
One thing I’m trying to remember is this: God is who He says He is and He will do what He says He will. He can be trusted. The Godly man has learned this well. It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it in the end.
Oh, to be called a Godly man!
