Godly Men, Part 2

Are you a Christian man searching for true friendships?

If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! Ecclesiastes 4:10 NIV

The Godly man must sometimes say no to some things, even at the expense of friendships or position. I don’t want to leave the impression, however, that the Godly man is without friendships. In fact, I’m not sure an ungodly man really knows how to have a friend. I’m not saying that to sound cruel, but in my experience, real friendships for me didn’t begin until I started to give God first place in my life.

I became a Christian at 10 years of age, but I didn’t really begin to grow in my Christian walk until I was in my early twenties. Shortly thereafter, I went through a very major trial in my life. I thought I knew heartache, but nothing like what I experienced at that time in my life. I realized, as I looked around in my little world, that I really had no one I could call. There was not a man in my life that I was really that close to.

I begin to pray that God would open my heart to Godly male friendships. I had never really asked God for friends before. It wasn’t long until God sent a man into my life un-expectantly. He became my Jonathon, just like David had when he went through trials. He helped me in being able to open my heart again, and he taught me how to be a true friend. Since then, I have had more close male friends than I had ever imagined possible. These are real men; Godly men who love and care for me...and who hold me accountable to living for Christ.

Are you a Christian man searching for true friendships? Sure, you have found a “friend who sticks closer than a brother” in Jesus. I know your wife is to be your best friend; mine is, but there is a need for companionship, Godly, Holy companionship, in a man’s life that only another Godly man can fill. Do you need that in your life? Are you at that broken place in life where you could stand to draw from the strength of a Godly man? Ask God to send that person into your life today! If you are the spouse of a man who needs a Godly male influence, you intercede for him today. Trust Him to provide you with the answer.
