Exodus 20:8-11 (NASB®)
“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work . . . For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
I want to encourage you to purposefully, intentionally practice the Sabbath on a weekly basis. The notion of the Sabbath begins in the Book of Genesis and is carried right on through Scripture. It’s included in the Ten Commandments. I don’t know that there is a day that is more holy, but I do know that God says we should take a day and yield it to Him. This is not an attempt to recruit you for more routine church attendance, but I would encourage you to routinely make space in your life for God. As you think about your schedule, plan a time on a weekly basis where you can turn your heart to the Lord. It will make a difference.
Heavenly Father, thank You for rest. As I prepare to adjust my calendar to include a day of rest, I ask for Your Holy Spirit to meet me and teach me Your truths. In Jesus’ name, amen.
