God’s Sweet Breath

Do you know why the breath of God is so sweet?

One of the surprising discoveries of parenthood is how much you like “baby smell,” even the smell of your baby’s breath. Did you know that God’s breath is sweet too?

Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the earth and blew the breath of life into his nostrils. The man became a living being(Genesis 2:7). When God created animals, he simply formed them and they started living. For people, he did something special. He took dust and shaped it, and then God injected life into Adam right through the nose! From that moment on, humans walked around with the breath of the living God inside them.

When Jesus was preparing to return to heaven, he knew that his disciples would be terrified of being left alone. To reassure them that they weren’t being abandoned,Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.’ After he had said this, he breathed on the disciples and said, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit’ (John 20:21,22).

The first time God breathed into a person, life began. The next time God breathed on a person, the power and wisdom of the Holy Spirit was given to us.

Love that smell!
