God Is with You
“But while Joseph was there in the prison, the Lord was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden. So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there. The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care, because the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.” -Genesis 39:20-23
The story of Joseph in Genesis is a beautiful narrative and shows that God is with us no matter what we go through. God was with Joseph when he was thrown in prison, and God was with Joseph when his dream interpretations saved many lives.
God’s favor and kindness was upon Joseph even though he was thrown in prison and didn’t deserve to be there.
Have you ever felt like you were stuck in a bad situation? Think of prison in a symbolic way.
What emotions hold you captive? Emotions hold me captive sometimes. Emotions like worry, fear, and guilt cloud my judgment.
Are you stuck in a cycle where you constantly pray for freedom? Do you want to find freedom from a painful break-up, family problem, financial crisis, health concern, addiction, or an ongoing panic attack?
What’s holding you captive? What would you like freedom from? Whatever you’re going through, God is with you in the prison.
And as Joseph spoke to his brothers and told them not to be afraid, I will tell you the same. Don’t be afraid. What is intended for harm, God will use for good.
Your testimony in a specific situation could produce fruit that leads to someone finding Jesus as a savior. God can accomplish a mighty work within you to save many lives. Even in our perceived captivity, God has a plan.
God has a purpose. God will grant you favor and grace to overcome your pain. I encourage you to read the full story about Joseph in the Bible.
Joseph went to the dungeon before he fulfilled his purpose. Don’t give up. Some of the most memorable people went through great suffering before witnessing God’s glory.
To my knowledge, it was the wrongdoing of Joseph’s brothers that allowed Joseph to prosper and overcome in the first place. It’s best to trust God while you wait for freedom. God will meet you right where you are today. God will be with you in the darkest of valleys and the highest hilltop. Rejoice.
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you…” (Isaiah 43: 1-2)
Prayer: Lord, thank you for always watching over me. I want to experience freedom in my life. When I feel lost or stuck, deliver me. Give me the strength to believe that you are with me no matter what happens. Amen.
