God Is Greater!

Description

God is greater than our challenges, disappointments and anything else we might face.

In what ways does God let you know He goes before you?

The church we were visiting yesterday had visuals to go with this series of messages. They were great big >>>.  Yes, >>>, Greater Than signs.  It’s such familiar language within our theme, Who’s the Greatest?

How does that happen?  God shows that He goes ahead so often – so affirming!  The picture of a parent holding his or her arms out to a child learning to walk comes to mind.  “Here I am. I’ve got you! You can do this! Come. See, I’m here in front of you.”

Further, the series was covering topics that included, God is Greater Than My Disappointments, God is Greater Than My Failures and yesterday’s topic, God is Greater Than My Confusion.  God is greater than so much – everything really.  It’s such a true, God-focused perspective.

Ann Voskamp, the writer of One Thousand Gifts, encourages us to write a list of things to be thankful. Bring it to one thousand! Maybe it’s also an idea to write a list of a thousand ways God is “Greater Than.” Identify times and areas that challenge you, and thus challenge His Greatness. Write them down. Acknowledging He is Greater.

What you just read are the thoughtful words of Board President Henrietta Reinders. She sent the challenge to the GEMS Executive Board and Staff on Monday morning as part of her weekly Prayer Time email that keeps us united and intentional in prayer for the ministry. Her words resonated with me, and the next morning I began the to journal my way to one thousand.

  1. God is greater than my challenges.
  2. God is greater than my grief.
  3. God is greater than my disappointments.
  4. God is greater than my plans.
  5. God is greater than my family’s needs.
  6. God is greater than my hang-ups.
  7. God is greater than weather patterns.

As the page filled my heart was encouraged, and my spirit strengthened. What powerful, needed truth for every corner and canyon of life.  HE > everything!
