God Holds Our Loved Ones

Description

God is not asleep, nor does He ever slap his forehead in surprise. He is fully aware of what’s around the blind corners in all of our lives.

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.  Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.”  (Matthew 10:29-31, ESV)

I sat mindlessly surfing the net, trying not to worry about both my girls being out so late. They borrowed my car to pick up a few things and ‘pop’ in on a friend. At sixteen and twenty, they had proven to be trustworthy and I didn’t want to call them on their electronic leashes, but hours had passed and I was becoming vexed. Some of their friends had recently been in a horrific car accident and seeing pictures of the wreck planted seeds of fear in me.

Finally, (why is it always our ‘final’ and not our ‘first’?) I shut the laptop and began to pray. The Lord knew exactly where they were. He holds them in His hand and for Pete’s sake, numbers the hairs on their heads. Between the two of them, that’s a lot of hair! I should know I have vacuumed up wads of it!

As I sat in the stillness of the night, raising my girls up in prayer, I could feel my shoulders beginning to relax as the burden of fear was lifted. A smile crossed my lips, recognizing that the spiritual battle had been won.

It doesn’t mean that they will never be touched by tragedy, but I have peace knowing that everything is sifted through God’s caring hands and that He is not asleep, nor does He ever slap his forehead in surprise. No, He is fully aware of what’s around the blind corners in all of our lives.

He values and holds my daughters close to his heart, and with that knowledge, I released them to Him...and slept.
