God Doesn’t Have Grandchildren
For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. (Romans 8:15-17 ESV)
We are anxiously awaiting the birth of our second grandchild this spring. Can hardly wait! Grandchildren are the best as we get to shop for them, cuddle them . . . and go home.
Children take a lot of work. We’ve already done our time of walking the halls and changing diapers. I once read that, ‘Grandchildren are God’s reward for not killing your kids’. I like that. I lived that.
And here’s a lovely thought: God doesn’t have any grandchildren. You can’t get into heaven by inheritance through your parents. It’s a personal decision and relationship with God that each person needs to make. God is willing to do the work for His children. He never tires of cleaning us up and walking with His heirs. He doesn’t just cuddle us and pass us off. He gives everything to us and for us.
We are all His children and deeply, passionately loved!
Father, we thank You that You never tire of us . . . that we are all loved, wanted and cared for by You. Help us to understand and embrace who we are in Christ! Forgive us for being so blind and ignorant to our standing and place. Hold us close, dear Father, hold us close. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
