God and "Frozen"

In the Disney movie Frozen, Elsa has magical ice powers that she keeps secret from her little sister, Anna. On Coronation Day, Elsa exposes her powers in front of everyone, sets off an eternal winter, and runs away to the mountains in fear that she might be a danger to everyone she loves. Anna, a courageous and determined girl, chases after her older sister to try and find her. She endures freezing snow, a giant ice monster, wolves, and a boyfriend who tries to kill her, but Anna never lets anything get in the way of finding her sister.

In some ways, Anna’s love for Elsa is like God’s love for us. God will never ever let anything come between us. Now that he sent Jesus in our place, we are part of God’s royal family. In Romans 8:38,39, there’s a long list of things that will never separate us from the love of God: “I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus” (NIV).

God loves us with all our flaws, just like Anna still loved Elsa even though she ran away. God turned our frozen, sinful hearts into warm, loving hearts that want to serve and praise him. Now nothing will ever keep us from his love. No matter what.

Dear God, we know you will never leave us nor forsake us. Please help us always remember this so we know we never walk alone. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
