Glory Deferred

Description

The Lord is continually calling you to give things up, to die to yourself. Give up the glory you are seeking to elevate yourself, and choose instead to serve unnoticed.

“Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will keep it.” - Luke 17:33

LORD, you are continually calling us to give things up; to die to ourselves. You see the underlying factors. You see the motivations of our heart – whether they are for Your glory or our own.

And – only You can know how many times we will have to be trained in giving up “our will” and “our way” and the honor due us – before we will fully realize just how much our future LIFE hinges on our current death.

I am not speaking of physical death. Maybe it’s a death of a dream, or a career you’ve worked toward for years. Maybe God’s calling you to walk away from a relationship, or the need to be right EVERY time. Some of us suffer from performance oriented anxiety, and others – from perfectionism. A few just want recognition for a job well done. Whatever your vice may be, in God’s economy life always follows death. Giving up the glory you are seeking to elevate yourself, and choosing instead to serve unnoticed; your right hand not even knowing what your left is doing. THAT is precisely what is meant by the verse above.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, you taught us this principle so well while walking on this earth. You were constantly giving things up for others, always pointing back to your Father in heaven and deferring glory to Him. Even while you were God in flesh, You did not choose to come in majesty but as a humble carpenters son. Death was no exception.  You chose to give up your own will and your own way for the bigger plan that had been set in place before the foundations of the earth were laid. Thank you for setting such a perfect example and becoming the plumb line for us all!
