Give Me Jesus
For she said, “If I touch even his garments, I will be made well.” And immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. And Jesus, perceiving in himself that power had gone out from him, immediately turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched my garments?” And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing around you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’” And he looked around to see who had done it. But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling and fell down before him and told him the whole truth. And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease”—Mark 5:28-34.
This statement is addressed to a woman that suffered bleeding making her unclean for 12 years (Mark 5:25). She is one of the many people that were desperate to get close to Jesus. Why was she desperate? Because she had tried everything to heal the bleeding, but nothing worked (Mark 5:26). Have you ever become desperate because everything you thought would solve a problem had been tried and failed? That was what this woman was feeling.
She wasn’t alone. She was in a crowd of people who were all desperate to be near Jesus because they needed healing as well. Jesus was on His way to heal someone else when this happened. As Jesus was making His way to heal the other person, He walked by this woman in her desperate condition. She touches His garment and then “immediately the flow of blood dried up” (Mark 5:29). Where there once was complete desperation in its place was amazement. She had been completely healed.
Jesus then pauses and draws attention to this situation. He shines the spotlight on this amazing healing and says, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace and be healed of your disease” (v. 34). Some people take this verse to mean if you have a lot of faith you will be healed, if you don’t have enough faith, you won’t experience healing. But look more closely at this verse. Jesus is not talking about a physical healing, but a spiritual healing. He tells her to “go in peace and be healed of your disease” (v. 34). This woman was totally desperate for physical healing but He was about to do much more. She had tried everything else and it failed her miserably. Only Jesus would do!
Her heart was singing “Give me Jesus, give me Jesus. You can have all this world, just give me Jesus!” Is that where you are today? Are you ready to put your faith completely in Him alone? Do you believe He is the only one who can heal your broken heart? He is the only one who can heal you spiritually and physically. Are you willing to stop trying everything else and cry out with this woman, “Give me Jesus”?
What am I waiting on right now that is impossible for me to fix?
What are some of the things I trust in rather than putting my faith in Jesus?
Prayer - Heavenly Father, it is so easy to lose focus, especially our focus on You! I get anxious when I try to fix things in my own strength and fail miserably. Thank You for not giving me success in the things I try to do in my own strength. Help me to depend fully upon You. Give me Jesus. You can have all this world, just give me Jesus. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
