Getting Off the Ride

If you are finding it difficult to untangle from the web of technology, determine to “go dark” today.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast,” (Ephesians 2:8-9).

We have examined how technology can amplify pride in any of us. With the misguidedness that pride causes, we can easily begin to think that every gift, blessing and possession we have is self-made instead of God-given. This narcissistic thinking causes us to not only distance ourselves from those around us, but also from God and, ultimately, eternity. It’s time to land the plane and use the nearest exit to get off this bumpy ride of pride.

Exiting the ride of pride seems easy enough in theory. But the technology web can be very tangled and difficult to escape, so it’s important to have a plan of action.  For some, it may mean to take time to reevaluate the motivation of what’s being shared and examining who you are following and their influence on you. Others may be so entangled that a “going dark” approach for a few days may be needed. You’ll soon be able to enjoy those you are actually with and realize the real world around you can be more interesting than the virtual world. And with each adjustment we’ll discover that technology can actually be used to grow our relationship with God if used for His purposes.

Ask God to help you untangle from the technological web, so you can step off the ride of pride. Ask Him to show you how to use technology to draw closer to Him rather than it becoming a distraction from Him.

If you are finding it difficult to untangle from the web of technology, determine to “go dark” today. Experience what can happen when the distractions of technology are completely quiet.
