Get Some Rest
Read: Nehemiah 12:27-13:31
Sometimes it is difficult to stop working and let our hearts and minds relax.
In Nehemiah 13, God commanded the people to observe the Sabbath, a day of rest. God created the Sabbath after He finished creating the earth and mankind. Genesis 2:2-3 says, “By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.” Similarly, the Sabbath was intended for us to worship and enjoy God before we begin, or when we end, a week of work. While we may feel the need to use our downtime to continue to work and get ahead, God commands us to set aside time in our week to rest. When Jesus came, He performed miracles on the Sabbath, showing us that observing a day of rest doesn’t mean we have to sit still and do nothing (Matthew 12). However, we still need to make time to come to the Lord for refreshment we need from the busyness of our daily lives.
Jesus told us in Matthew 11:28, “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Will you come to Jesus and let Him give you rest?
